GHOST HUNTING EXPECTATIONS

Posted by Jason Houck Jr on December 19, 2011 at 9:35 PM

A lot of the people out there that don’t quite understand this field yet or are new at it, may find themselves disappointed when they venture out to do some “ghost hunting” of their own or with a group like WCGHS.  With all the Paranormal TV shows that are out there, many people believe that it’s just like that and unfortunately it is not. As an investigator my self I wish it was, LOL.  Now, I’m not out to bash any of those shows, in fact I still watch a couple myself and enjoy watching them.

The fact is, in most cases you will probably not have any personal experiences, collect any evidence on camera (video & digital) or on voice recordings.  Unfortunately it can be very boring for most people more often than not. That’s the harsh truth about this field. Even at “Hot” spots like a Waverly Hills, I’ll have hours and hours of data collected and only come up with a few things that MAY or MAYNOT be paranormal.  On the other hand some locations may be active at the time you are there and you may experience and collect some great evidence.  You can never predict what a specific location will be like until you investigate it.

Here are some things to keep in the back of your mind when you go out to investigate any location regardless of what you have heard about it.

- Understand and learn of the place you are investigating. Do your "do diligence".

- Keep expectations low and if any, look to debunk the claims first.  Remember some claims may be able to figured out rationally.  Never assume every claim is paranormal in nature.

- You are only there for a short period of time, while others may live or work there  for years. Their chances to experience things are MUCH greater than yours.

- Spirit activity is not like a switch, you can not turn it on or off. Yes, there are some factors that may help promote activity but if you are dealing with an intelligent haunt, they will do what they want when they want to.  If you’re dealing with a residual haunt, activity will replay its self over and over whether you are there or not and can happen at anytime day or night.

- Most of all keep your mind OPEN and have fun at your investigations, regardless if you experience or collect anything.

I couldn't agree anymore. I always hear the people who want to go to Bachelor's Grove around Halloween expecting to catch all sorts of supernatural footage and see unexplainable things. What is their result? They come out very disapointed. Although these are people who most likely are caught up in the hype of Halloween and not looking to actually seek answers and do research I tell them to go their and expect nothing to happen. Its not like ghosts are sitting on their tombstones reading a book waiting for the living to pass by. You have to have an open mind and be patient. Great post!
